Dream Job – Chief Hiking Officer with Devil’s Backbone Brewery

In one of the most extraordinary dream job vacancies to date, Devil's Backbone Brewing Company is looking for a Chief Hiking Officer (CHO) to walk the Appalachian Trail – a near 2,200 mile journey – over the course of six months.

Your 'job' will involve walking (and camping) the trail, drinking some Devil's Backbone beer along the way and documenting all of this on social media.  When you consider that pretty much all dream jobs involve at least an element of work, this one really has cut the whole 'work' thing back to its bare bones so you're basically being paid to travel (after all, if you were going to just walk the trail yourself, we're pretty sure you'd be updating your social media profiles along the way anyway!).

The brewery (owned by Anheuser-Busch) is inviting interested applicants to submit a one-minute video application before 31st July 2020, detailing why they think they're suitable for the job including details of hiking/exploring experience.  Perhaps unsurprisingly, the 'recruitment' process is a little more complicated than some dream jobs and once you're through the first stage of the video application, there are a few stages including a semi-final and final judging process to whittle down the applicants to one lucky winner.   All entirely worth it in our view for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

To apply, applicants need to be 21+ yrs old and from one of the following states: West Virginia, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina & Virginia.

Oh!! we forgot to mention the rewards.  In addition to being kitted out with all of the necessary equipment, provided with a return airfare and quite a lot of beer, you'll also receive $20k (not bad for 6 months walking).  For all of the Chief Hiking Officer competition details click here and for the full rules here.

Below is the company's invitation for applicants (you'll need to click to watch it on Youtube as it's age restricted).
