SpaceX are recruiting for a really cool dream job – Mixologist in a Spaceport!
As dream job aficionados, we'll be completely honest and state that the role of mixologist in a 'normal' bar/club/venue just isn't cool enough to be called a dream job. The setting for that mixologist role needs to be something really interesting or special to make us sit up and think 'that should be included in our list of dream job vacancies'. So when we heard about the SpaceX opportunity, we took note and had to find out more.
For those who don't know, SpaceX 'was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not'. Today SpaceX 'is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars'. Many disparate factors will need to come in to play for the achievement of this goal however one of the cornerstones of the whole process will be ensuring that everyone involved in the SpaceX project on planet Earth is suitably fed and watered. And this is why a mixologist is required.
Could a spaceport function without a mixologist – possibly – but would it really be right if the people directly involved in the space exploration and tourism industries were unable to access a good cocktail at the end of another successful flight or mission? Definitely not.
So, going back to the role itself, here's the SpaceX job description;
SPACEPORT MIXOLOGIST
We are looking for a passionate, experienced bartender looking to join our culinary team! SpaceX has a number of food service outlets and formats serving our workforce and are looking to add many more. We are searching for candidates who have superior mixology experience with a focus in resorts, bars, and full service restaurants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare drinks, including hand crafted cocktail options, ensuring consistency and compliance with the restaurant’s recipes, portioning, and waste control guidelines
Provide courteous and informative customer service while ensuring that assigned station is stocked and clean
Follow restaurant guidelines concerning guest services, drink and physical safety, maintenance, and equipment/space cleaning requirements at all times
Maintain organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years of experience in mixology or cocktail preparation in a bar or restaurant
It all looks pretty straightforward to us although there is one obvious hurdle – most of the jobs on DreamJobsy require little or no experience of doing the job in question whereas SpaceX require two years of relevant experience for this role. If you're able to meet their fairly straightforward requirements, start dreaming about that moment when someone asks you what you do for a living and you say “I'm a spaceport mixologist”.
Our only piece of advice with this job – perfect your Margarita. SpaceX founder Elon Musk famously followed up on his Teslaquila joke with the launch of a premium $250 Tesla Tequila brand so presumably he'll be able to recognize a good margarita when he tastes one.
